Azuree Wiitala is a Chicago-based photographer that lives with her husband Christopher and two bunnies named Franny and Seymour. She also happens to shoot weddings. Her work has an intimate, fun, and quirky nature that I find very refreshing. I asked Azuree some questions and she actually answered them! Take a gander and, when you're done, please check out her website. Here ya go...
How long have you been shooting weddings and how did you get into the field?
I’ve been shooting weddings for about 8 years. I used to do a lot of concert photography (or shoot a lot of concert photography….what’s the right way to say that?!)and became friends with a few bands. Once those guys were ready to get married, they wanted an unconventional wedding photographer and so I kind of fell into wedding photography!
Tell me about your equipment. I love how your images have a very intimate and personal feel to them.
My first film camera was a Canon and I’ve stuck with them ever since. I currently shoot weddings with a Canon 6D. I have a variety of lenses, but my current faves are the Canon 35mm f1.4 L , Canon 50mm f1.4, and Canon 85 f1.8. I try to use natural light when possible, which is a big part of my aesthetic, as well as letting couples do what comes natural to them. I do give a little guidance when I’m asked for it, but, for the most part, I just like to document a moment instead of setting it up.
If you could never take another photo, what profession would you choose?
Wow. This question really stumped me. I guess it’d be pretty fun to be a graphic designer or something else that is visually stimulating or I could be the lucky person that gets to oil Ryan Gosling up for movies and photo shoots. (My husband isn’t going to see this...right? haha)
Name your 5 least favorite foods.
Fish, Olives, Quinoa (just because I’m sick and tired of hearing about it), burnt coffee, and seitan (wait, is that food?)
In a perfect world, how do you see your life in 10 years?
In ten years, I hope I have a Flemish Giant rabbit and to be able to travel as often as I’d like. I wouldn’t mind having a flat in Paris to house my rabbits while I’m traveling. I’d definitely have a Coca Cola Classic fountain soda machine in my kitchen too. A girl can dream, right?
Yes she can Azuree!
