Just In: Time Names New Director of Photography

Time magazine has named Kira Pollack its new director of photography. Below is a memo sent today from Time managing editor Rick Stengel announcing the appointment. PDN will have a full story shortly.

To: TIME Edit

From: Rick Stengel

I'm delighted to announce that Kira Pollack will become our new Director of Photography, overseeing the photographic vision of both TIME and TIME.com. She comes to us from the New York Times magazine where she excelled as a photo editor over the last eleven years. While there, she helped launch Play, their sports magazine. Before going to the Times, she spent four years as a photo editor at the New Yorker.

Kira is a passionate and immensely knowledgeable advocate for distinctive and memorable photography. She has proven herself in every realm of photography, from gritty photojournalism to campaign politics to celebrity portraiture. She has a great eye and a great attitude and she will, I believe, take us to a new level in terms of the singularity of our photographic vision across all of our platforms. Please join me in welcoming Kira to TIME. Her first day is October 5.
