Aside from the holiday cheer of too much roasted goose and eggnog, Thanksgiving's endless day of football matches, and crashing as many office parties as one can handle, the late Autumn/Winter season offers a good range of photo contests to mark on your calendar.

THE MAGENTA FOUNDATIONS FLASH FORWARD 2009
Submissions Deadline: December 31, 2008
Type of Contest: Open call for emerging photographers, 34 years of age and under, in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Top Prize: Bright Spark Award winner will receive $5,000. All Winners and Honorable Mentions will be published in a book complemented by an exhibition in Canada and the US featuring select artists.

2009 WORLD PRESS PHOTO CONTEST
Submissions Deadline: January 15, 2009
Type of Contest: Open to all professional press photographers. There is no entry fee.
Top Prize: World Press Photo of the Year Award, winner will receive 10,000.00 EUR, as well as expenses to travel to Amsterdam for the Awards Days in April 2009 and one of Canon's latest professional digital cameras.

EYE ON THE STRAND PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST
Submissions Deadline: November 6, 2008 through February 27, 2009
Type of Contest: Photographers are invited to submit photo representations of the Strand Book store, open to both amateurs and professional photographers.
Top Prize Includes: An afternoon with photographer Mary Ellen Mark with lunch at Balthazar Restaurant.
