Perpignan News: Visa d'Or Feature Announcement and More

Stirton

News and notes from Friday at the Visa pour l'Image festival in Perpignan, France:

  • Brent Stirton has won the Visa d'Or Feature Award for his work on the slaughter of gorillas in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He accepted the award tonight and among those he thanked were the magazines that published this project, Newsweek and National Geographic. Stirton is with Getty Images.
  • Festival director Jean-Francois Leroy announced tonight that Canon has signed on as a Visa pour l'Image sponsor for another five years. The company is one of the festival's major backers, and had just reached the end of a three-year contract.
  • Saturday night's award announcement will be the Visa d'Or for News. Nominees are Yasuyoshi Chiba, Philip Blenkinsop, John Moore and Anthony Suau. You'll see the winner first on PDN's Twitter feed.
