Canon Teases Something -- 5D Replacement, Possible Moon Landing?

Canon has been very tight-lipped on whatever may or may not be coming to replace the popular but ancient full-frame 5D digital SLR. Today both the mothership Canon Inc. website and the Canon Europe website have unveiled teasers to some kind of digital SLR coming down the pike but we can't really make out what they're trying to say.

Evo On the one hand, we have the Japanese Canon Inc. site which takes a few seconds to load up a shot of the moon with a digital SLR appearing in front of it with the words "Destined Evolution." (A bad translation?) Maybe it's just us but the camera looks more like a possible successor to the Mark III than a 5D replacement, but who knows. It's all very sketchy.

On the the Europe site, we see the top of a DSLR floating by with the words: "The EOS Story Continues..See the future of photography...Stay tuned..." It should be noted, for what it's worth, that the cameras in both teasers have no pop-up flash. Hmmm....

Meanwhile, some blogs have been posting what they claim are the specs for the upcoming "5D Mark II." You can check them out here.

Photokina here we come.

I'd like a new 1DmIII so I could quit thinking about that Nikon D3.

I'm also eager to try out a video capable professional SLR like what Nikon has done with their new D90.

Is it my imagination or is the moon getting fuller and casting more light on the camera? There's a full moon on Sept.15th out West. Maybe I'm just going lunar with all the speculation over the new 5D replacement?

You may be on to something Bill!

I saw it very clearly earlier today, but now it's dark again. seems to wax and wane, but I don't understand if it is synced to realtime events.

I think Canon is keeping its silence regarding the new 5D generation or "replacement", because they want all their old stuff to be swept off the market.

I personally think Nikon's 700D is an incredible camera with far suprior picture quality, with a very steep price tag.

Let's see if Canon can surprise us all pleasantly.
