Photo Licensing Opportunity: The Bathtub

Showermcmullan_2

The retailer Urban Outfitters is selling a shower curtain emblazoned with a photo from the archive of nightlife photographer Patrick McMullan. The "Patrick McMullan Studio 54 Shower Curtain" ($32) features a black-and-white photo, taken at the Seventies nightclub, printed on the vinyl.

Stock photos are licensed all the time for use on household items – coffee mugs, placemats, mousepads. What's unusual is seeing the photographer's name being marketed so prominently.

"Step past the velvet rope and behind this premium vinyl curtain, decorated with a Patrick McMullan's [sic] photograph capturing the energy of New York's greatest nightspot."

I actually need a new shower curtain. But I''m waiting to see if a Helmut Newton version comes on the market.
