Slate on Getty Images Stock Photo Trends

Slate contributor Seth Stevenson has a story about creative research at Getty Images. Stevenson checks in with Denise Waggoner, Getty's VP of creative research, and digs up a couple of interesting tidbits. Three of the most consistently search-for keywords on gettyimages.com are business, people, and woman. Users are increasingly licensing lone pictures of people looking at the camera, perhaps for use in testimonials. And while most stock photos are only good for about four years, a photo of an oil rig shot in 2000 is still selling well.

Digging way back in our archive, here's a related PDNOnline story from December 2005: Stock Agencies Try To Predict The Future.

And from November 2007: Do-It-Yourself Creative Research.
