Profiting From Tragedy Watch: Brain Cancer Stock
Roughly 24 hours after it was reported that Sen. Edward Kennedy has a malignant brain tumor, Custom Medical Stock Photo Inc ssent out a press release letting editors know that their stock photo collection includes a CT scan of GLIMOA, "the same kind of tumor Senator Ted Kennedy has been reportedly diagnosed as having."
The press release also says the image is available now at a discount:
As a special offer, CMSP can license this image for one time editorial use to newspaper and magazine publishers for only $150.00 usd.
Call today for the special pricing.
A stock agency has to let clients know when they have an image that's newsworthy, no matter if that news is sad. Still, maybe I'm being overly sensitive, but promoting a one-time discount here makes me squirm. Anyone else think a Brain Cancer Sale-O-Bration is a tad crass?

Holly it may seem crass but agencies like Custom Medical have very rare collections. Most stock agencies cannot carry the types of images they license because it is so technical. I've used their $150. editorial rate and it is a good deal. These guys can answer medical questions - good luck getting technical medical answers out other agencies, especially the big ones.
