Photog-Produced Films A Hit At Sundance

At the ongoing Sundance Film Festival, HBO has snatched up two documentaries by filmmakers with still photography backgrounds. (Coincidentally, both filmmakers share a last name – Greenfield.)

  • HBO bought the North American rights to Lauren Greenfield's latest film "Kids + Money," a documentary about teenagers in Los Angeles. This news comes to us from Greenfield's husband, Frank Evers (managing director of VII Photo), who was also at Sundance. You might remember that HBO aired Greenfield's "Thin" movie from a few years ago.
  • HBO also made a deal with Timothy Greenfield-Sanders. The Hollywood Reporter reports: "HBO Docs said that it has picked up 'The Black List: Volume One.' Timothy Greenfield-Sanders directed the movie, in which journalist and former New York Times critic Elvis Mitchell interviews black cultural figures and icons ranging from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Sean Combs to Colin Powell."
