Renegade Results

What do you get when you take a bunch of photographers and set them loose in Manhattan with new gear to play with the day before PhotoPlus Expo? A grand old time and tons of pictures. But you might also get what organizers of the first annual "Renegade Photo Shoot" -- which we told you about back in October -- hope will become a yearly PhotoPlus tradition.

The event brought together a variety of photographers of differing backgrounds to shoot assignments at five locations throughout the city. Of course, these "assignments" were all in good fun and included such topics as "Shoot Like a Paparazzo" and "Street Fashion." As you can tell from the above photo by Eric Neilsen, the wandering band of Renegade shooters attracted quite a bit of attention as they traipsed about the city taking pictures and acting pretty friggin' cool.

Renegade Photo Shoot 2007: Eleven Photographers, Five Assignments, One Celebrity Sighting In A Manhattan Afternoon

Eclectic Mix Pilots New Education Concept;
Sponsors California Sunbounce, Lexar Media, Nikon, Printroom, Adesso Albums Provide Gear

Napa, CA, November 2, 2007 – RenegadePR, a public relations and photo representation agency based in California, hosted Renegade Photo Shoot 2007: NYC on the streets of Manhattan October 17.  This inaugural shoot brought together an eclectic mix of photographers – wedding, fashion, beauty, commercial, sports, environmental and paparazzi – to shoot varied assignments at five locations.

Over the course of an afternoon, photographers trekked on foot and by yellow cab to sites around Manhattan.  At each stop, an expert shooter outlined the assignment and provided tips and tricks for the best capture.  Photographers used their own gear as well as equipment provided by Lexar Media, Nikon and California Sunbounce light enhancers.  Participants also participated in the creation of an Adesso Album memory book.  Printroom provided Web site and online services. “The cultural diversity found on New York City streets, mixed with the Renegade team enabled me to learn different skills and open my eyes to new ways of photographically capturing imagery,” said Helene DeLillo of Helene DeLillo Photography.  “As a creative person it’s essential to stay inspired and open to new concepts and visual ideas.  Shooting side by side with other pros that I would not normally have the chance to work with makes this program so valuable.”

DeLillo served as a lead photographer and coordinated a beauty shoot with Philip Stark of Philip Stark Studio at the 2 Stops Brighter venue.  She arranged for a professional model styled by makeup artist Mark DeHaven.

• Shoot Like a Paparazzo, Henry Flores, www.buzzfoto.com
• Street Fashion, Gisela Prishker, www.gprishkerimages.com and Mike Larson, www.mikelarson.com
• Studio Beauty, DeLillo, www.helenedelillo.com and Stark, www.philipstark.com

Also on the shoot were E. Sapwater, Brad Elterman, California Sunbounce light enhancers CEO Wolfgang-Peter Geller, Sam Posten and Kathy Leistner.

Flores, cofounder of Buzz Foto, a Los Angeles-based agency, showed the group authentic angles and etiquette for working with A-list subjects. “Part of the paparazzo experience is dealing with the rush and mass of other shooters waiting to capture that great shot of a celebrity,” said Flores. “Then too it’s important to have an idea of hot locations. We were fortunate to catch Canadian actress, model and designer Marie-Lise Lachapelle and her husband at a café.”
